International Day Against Transphobia, Homophobia, and Biphobia
Book launches!
We had a great launch of
The Tales of Dwipa by Prajwala Dixit and Duncan Major. Prajwala gave us an amazing reading, and left everyone wanting to know how the story ended, while Duncan talked about how he brought the stories to life in his illustrations. Surprise guests,
The Swinging Belles, stopped by to sing a few songs and got everyone up dancing! Thank you to everyone who came out to the launch, and don't forget to plant the wildflower seed bombs made by
Katrina Taliana Ceramics that were in your loot bags!
Congratulations to Derek Yetman for the successful launch of The Yankee Privateer, at The Crow's Nest Officers' Club. Derek has been a long-time member of the historic club, so it was a fitting venue for an adventure on the high seas. Derek had his first-ever public reading, and had everyone excited to read more. Derek signed so many copies of The Yankee Privateer, and The Beothuk Expedition that attendees has to line up to wait their turn. Boyd Chubbs played music throughout the night

“Please pass along my utmost congratulations to Derek Yetman. Thoroughly enjoyed The Beothuck Expedition, and now reading The Yankee Privateer. Jonah Squibb is taking us on quite the adventures.
Well done, buddy!”

“The hilarious, cringe-worthy tale that makes you feel a bit better about your own life situation. It's the coming of age story set against the 2008 global recession of a humdrum individual named Milton Ontario, who leaves his small town in Saskatchewan to pursue fame and fortune in Montreal and to find his idol Leonard Cohen.”
“By merging Indian cultural tales from the Panchatantra with Newfoundland elements, Dixit makes it feel like I've just discovered a heretofore unknown new series of tales and moral parables to dive into. But ones for which the end isn't always clear. These stories don't always work the same way stories from Western culture do, so they have the ability so shock and entice and forgive in a way retellings of Grimm's tales do not.”
