We publish award-winning writing across all literary genres including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, drama, art, young adult and children’s books, as well as cookbooks, guidebooks and educational resources.
The Position
The Accounting and Finance Administration role is responsible for the bookkeeping across all financial operations, ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial information. Reporting to the President/Publisher, this role prepares financial reporting, assists a third-party accounting firm in preparation of financial statements, and communicates with distributors, customers, and vendors as required. This position ensures compliance with accounting standards while maintaining strong internal controls. This position plays a key role in supporting Breakwater’s publishing efforts and the success of Newfoundland and Labrador literary titles.
The Details
Part time hours of work are Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 12:00pm, totalling 35 hours bi-weekly. The salary range for this position is $18,200 – $20,020 annually. The work is on site at 263 Duckworth Street.

What You’ll Do
· Perform bookkeeping for all operations, including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable and receivable, and monthly and annual financial close processes
· Prepare financial reports for internal use and external funders
· Process payroll accurately and on time, including remittances, new hires, terminations, salary changes and benefits enrolment and deductions
· Contribute to the annual budgeting process
· Serve as the primary contact for external accountant and coordinate the preparation of annual materials
· Ensure appropriate controls and policies are in place for cash handling and banking authority
· Present complex financial data in a clear and accessible format
· Collaborate with leadership to advance financial sustainability and strengthen fiscal stewardship across the organization
What You’ll Bring
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting
· Working toward completion of a professional accounting designation
· Minimum of two (2) years of finance or accounting experience
· Experience in financial reporting, budgeting, and cash management
· Hands-on experience with financial management systems such as Sage 50 or equivalent
· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with the ability to analyze and interpret financial data
· Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with attention to detail and accuracy
· High degree of integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality
· Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
· Excellent communications skills (written and verbal)
