NEW RELEASES & UPCOMING EVENTS
Did you catch the 2025 Pratt Lecture by Madeleine Thien in November? If not, you can find it included in our last release of 2025, a co-publication with Memorial University Press: The E.J Pratt Lectures, 1968-2025.
For more than fifty years, Memorial University’s E. J. Pratt Lecture Series has invited eminent critics and artists to St. John’s, Newfoundland, to speak on the topics that lie at the heart of their work. This special edition, published to coincide with Memorial’s 100th anniversary, gathers a selection of the Lectures, beginning with the one that inaugurated the series in 1968, Northrop Frye’s “Silence in the Sea” and culminating with Madeleine Thien’s 2025 Lecture.
Available now on our website and at our Duckworth Street store!

HAVE YOU HEARD?
Breakwater Books joins fellow Canadian Publishers to Oppose Repeal of Library Mailing Provisions
From The Association of Canadian Publishers:
The Canadian publishing industry joins the National Network for Equitable Library Service (NNELS), the Centre for Equitable Library Access (CELA), and the broader Canadian library community in urging the federal government to withdraw amendments to the Canada Post Corporation Act introduced in Bill C-15 that jeopardize equitable access to books for Canadians across the country.
Removing these provisions would have immediate and harmful impacts on readers who rely on accessible materials, the public libraries that serve them, and the publishers and authors whose works circulate through this system. Publishers support maintaining and strengthening the Library Book Rate, the Literature for the Blind program, and other public-interest postal measures that ensure equitable access to reading materials nationwide.
For more information on how individuals can participate in this advocacy effort, please visit the NNELS website.

Feel-Good Holiday Cheer!
In 2012, Bruce Templeton published Man in the Red Suit with Breakwater Books, followed up by The Man with the White Beard and Twenty-Four Teddy Bears. Since their release, the author's revenue from these books has gone to Rotary International and has bought Polio vaccines for 600,000 children in the world. Breakwater is so delighted to be a part of this journey!
